MY STORY

 Why I LOVE Hip Hop

I first fell in love with Hip Hop the day my older sister brought home the 12" vinyl of Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight."  The distinct disco-inspired beat paired with the simplistic poetry of Master Gee, Wonder Mike, and Big Bank Hank had me hooked from start to finish. From that moment on I saved my weekly allowance and made my way to the record store to buy new vinyl and street mix tapes by the local DJs.

The Cold Crush Brothers, Dana Dane, Eric B & Rakim, Slick Rick, MC Lyte, Run DMC and so many more grew my love for hip-hop music and the culture that surrounded it. These artists were my music foundation in my pre-teen years during the early 80s.  Now 30+ years later, the love has evolved but has also remained steadfast.

In college, I interned for Luke Records and it was my first and best music industry education Priceless. I graduated in 1993 and eventually landed at the Los Angeles-based Priority Records in 1995, home of the infamous rap group NWA.  Eazy E had just passed away, Tupac signed with Deathrow Records and later that year Dr. Dre started Aftermath Entertainment. My label colleague signed this "little" southern label out of New Orleans called No Limit Records. It was challenging at the time to appreciate the lane Master P was creating for others that came behind him.   I was lucky enough to witness all of this firsthand. I'm so grateful for the labels, artists, and colleagues that shaped my career path.

Hip Hop Bodega was created to share with true hip-hop fans and culture archivists, some of the one-of-a-kind items I collected over my 30+ years in the business.

My goal with Hip Hop Bodega is to not only make these items available for sale but also to use this space for my personal passions. A minimum of 10% of the profits will be donated to non-profit organizations. I will also use profits from sales to invest in other small businesses supporting the community and culture.  It is my vision that this bodega can become a community space where others can share/sell hip-hop memorabilia with their own stories via our consignment services.

WELCOME to my neighborhood bodega!
